Enjoy a new friendship! Get to know an American friend or family online and make plans to meet them later. You can learn about each other's life, ask questions about confusing aspects of American culture, and support and encourage one another. It's also a great opportunity to practice conversational American English. This commitment is for one semester only, but the hope is that it will turn into a meaningful, enduring friendship. Sign up soon, as opportunities are limited.
For American Volunteers:
Develop a friendship with a USC international student from your own home by video chat. A single person, a couple, or a whole family is welcome to participate. We will provide some hints for interacting, conversation starter ideas and discuss any concerns you have, before personally introducing you to your student online. We ask that you chat for 30 minutes at least once a week. After a few weeks, we encourage you to plan a time to get together in person. To do so, you could pick up your student at USC and treat him or her to a restaurant meal or, better yet, bring the student to your home for a meal. Or you could go on a picnic, to the beach, take a hike, or engage in some other activity together. Then you will be free to continue your weekly video chats and plan other times together as you wish. This commitment is for one semester only, but the hope is that it will turn into a meaningful, enduring friendship.
